Student Volunteers in The 3rd Annual INDOPET EXPO 2017

Indo Pet Expo is the largest annual pet expo in Indonesia. This grand event is an initiative created by the Indonesian VeterinaryMedical Association (PDHI) as a medium to spread knowledge about animal welfare and more specifically, to help pet owners understand more about how to take care of their domestic pet animals and give them a happy life. Indo Pet 2017 is supported by PT Mavic Media Indonesia (PT MMI) as a professional event organizer.

After the highly successful grand event of Indonesia Pet Expo or Indo Pet Expo in 2015 and 2016 with more than 27,000 visitors, 3000 pets, and 100 exhibitors, this event has been held again on September 8-11, 2017 at Hall 3 and 3A, Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang, carrying the theme “Promoting Responsible Care for your Pet’s Welfare”. The enthusiastic and ever-growing number of visitors since the first Indo Pet Expo was held indicated that the community’s hobby and the love of pets continues to grow.

The 3rd annual event of Indo Pet Expo continues to showcase various businesses and educational interactive activities focused on pets and their welfare. We collaborated with various animal lovers communities such as Amazing Dog Race, ICA, Indonesian Parrot Lovers, Sugar Glider Indonesia Lovers Community (KPSGI), Indonesian Rabbit Society, Hedgehog Lover Indonesia and various animal parks within the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI) which also featured Baby Zoo. In contrast to previous years, this year’s Indo Pet Expo presented something new that is the presence of Tarantula Keepers Indonesia, Jumbo Keong Indonesia, East Java Carnival (Tavor) Forum, Indonesian Musang Observer Association, Aspera, Otter Indonesia Community and Horse World (Horse World) featuring a variety of mini horses.

Animal welfare programs crafted an exciting 3-day celebration of the joy of having animals in our lives to educate and spread the knowledge of animal welfare and providing pet owners with information related to pet care and animal healthcare. Indo Pet Expo does not only serve as a platform for entrepreneurs or businesses to display and introduce their products to the animal lover community, further more, Indo Pet Expo also provides a direct access for businesses to meet with tens of thousands of potential customers under one roof.From year to year, Indo Pet Expo also became a hot gathering spot for pet owners to meet and mingle with new friends as pets are welcome to visit and enter the expo area more than 10.000 sqm.The specialty of this exhibition is that visitors are allowed to bring their pets while enjoying the exhibition. To ensure the health of animals / animals brought into the exhibition area of ​​Indo Pet Expo, professional veterinarians from PDHI conductedcheck points at the entrance of the exhibition area and in the exhibition area there are also various veterinary clinics and hospitals that provide free consultation. Provided inside the exhibition hall are Kids Fun Area and a large food court area filled with food trucks.The exhibition displayed a wide range of pet products attended by more than 150 exhibitors and not only coming from within the country but also from countries such as Italy, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and some other countries.

This exhibition was as festive as ever with an additional event, Bark In The Park Indonesia. This special event is designed not only for the health and happiness of dogs, but also to strengthen the bond between the owners and their pet dogs by walking and running together.   Some interesting educational topics are alsodiscussed in the form of Talk Shows, including wildlife conservation, as many communities make wildlife as exotic pets without knowing whether their status is protected or not. Therefore, various parties from the government  also participate in enlightening communities such as the Directorate of Animal Health, the Directorate of Veterinary Public Health and the Animal Quarantine Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of Conservation and Biodiversity (KKH) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Police of the Animal with fleets of dogs and horses, as well as from a fleet of sniffer dogs from the National Narcotics Agency which will also provide attractions. Parallel to the exhibition, there was also be a veterinary scientific conference for veterinary professionals as well as exhibitors.

IMAKAHI has sent about 100 student volunteers from veterinary faculties across Indonesia to help and support this event. They were amazing and participated on a number of subevents. Volunteers have also made a huge impact in making this event successful. They were assigned to different sectors, such as ticketing that worked on ticket sales, entrance that worked on checking incoming visitors, veterinary check points that checked animals’ health, hostedand served guests at the opening ceremony, seminar, and workshop.Coordinated exhibitors, took part in Bark in the Park event as committee members, educated visiting students and lots more!

As veterinary students, we are really proud and happy to have participated in this event. Indo Pet Expo was an exciting grand event! We certainlyhope that this expo continues annually, with more improvement, so that all participants can indulge in this merry festival, where we can learn, build our network, and raise awareness on the importance of the animals, whose lives are deeply intertwined with our own.
